Plans that are most popular in New Jersey are Preferred
Provider Organization (PPO) plans and High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP).
Preferred Provider Organization plans are part of the main
three health insurance plans which includes Health Maintenance Organization
(HMO) plans and Point of Service (POS) plans.
Point of Service plans are the most flexible and generally most
expensive and Health Maintenance Organizations are the least flexible and
generally least expensive of the three.
Preferred Provider Organization plans fall somewhere between the
two. Different from HMOs, PPOs allow
members to choose from out-of-network care providers, whereas HMOs require
members to choose from in-network care providers. While PPO plans give their members freedom to
choose, copays are also generally higher than that if in-network care providers
were chosen.
High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) are plans that are
generally geared towards healthier and younger individuals. Since these High Deductible plans are a form
of “catastrophic” plans, the plans are usually chosen when emergency situations
are a rarity in the individual’s case.
High Deductible plans are paired with low-premiums, which makes them
attractive to younger people.
Aetna also offers residents on New Jersey Health Savings
Accounts which are appealing to individuals who want control over their health,
choose a healthier lifestyle, and take responsibility to where their health
care dollars are spent- whether in short term use or in long term use. Aetna also lowers the health insurance
premium and pays out-of-pocket health care expenses with tax-advantaged
savings. These Health Savings Accounts
are flexible and follow the individual between jobs, states, and even marital
status.
