Anthem is a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange and is also part of the S&P 500. Anthem offers Pennsylvania residents a large and extended network of the nation’s best physicians, specialists and hospitals under Blue Cross Blue Shield. In addition, Anthem provides members with programs and information that allows them to manage their chronic health conditions and offers services in life, dental and pharmacy. Some popular plans in which Anthem offers are Lumenos Health Savings Accounts, Premier Plans and BlueAccess Value plans.
Lumenos Health Savings Accounts are consumer-driven plans which offer 100% coverage for preventative care services and require no deduction from members’ health account when using network providers. Health Savings Accounts offer consumers the benefit of choosing where their money is allocated- whether in short-term use or long-term medical use. The variance between Lumenos plans rely on how much contribution is made to the health account and how the money is used to pay for health expenses. These plans are flexible to the member’s budget and are designed to reduce out-of-pocket expenses.
Pennsylvania residents are offered the Traditional Program as well as the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Program. The Traditional Program is a comprehensive medical health care benefit plan. Members are recommended to use doctors and physicians who are “Blue Plan” participators.
The Preferred Provider Organization program is a non-network option, though while the degree of freedom is higher, as consumers are able to choose out-of-network care providers, the copay is generally higher.
Within the Traditional Program and Preferred Provider Organization Program, members are given a Blue Shield ID Card which allows them to travel nation or world-wide. This helps doctors and hospitals recognize the coverage and carrier they are provided with.
Within the Blue Open Access SmartSense POS Plan and Blue Open Access Premier PPO Plan, members have the freedom to choose what health care provider they want to use. Maternity is generally not covered however optional coverage may be available within certain Blue Open Access Plans.
Anthem also offers DentalBlue for members which are network based PPO dental insurance products. The Dental Networks come within the 100 Network, the 200 Network and the 300 Network. For more information about Anthem plans in Pennsylvania, contact us at 877-567-5267.
