Celtic has been rated A- Excellent by A.M. for over 20 years
for their financial stability and their strength in the health insurance
industry. The main health plans that are
offered for California residents are Celtic’s Basic Health Plan, CeltiCare
Preferred Health Plan, and Health Savings Account health plans.
California’s Celtic Basic Health Plan offers high deductible
plans, a pharmaceutical plan, and Preferred Provider Organization plan with an
High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP), such as the
CelticSaver, is a health insurance plan that has lower premiums but higher
deductibles as opposed to traditional health insurance plans. These plans are directed towards healthier,
and usually younger, individuals and are a form of “catastrophic
coverage.” Deductibles range from $1,500
to $5,000 for individuals.
Preferred Provider Organizations are part of the main three
health insurance plans which also includes Health Maintenance Organization
(HMO) plans and Point of Service (POS) plans.
Point of Service plans are the most flexible and generally most
expensive and Health Maintenance Organizations are the least flexible and
generally least expensive of the three.
Preferred Provider Organization plans fall somewhere between the
two. Different from HMOs, PPOs allow
members to choose from out-of-network care providers, whereas HMOs require
members to choose from in-network care providers. While PPO plans give their members freedom to
choose, copays are also generally higher than that if in-network care providers
Health Savings Accounts give members the freedom to choose
where their health insurance dollars are allocated. Some may choose to save their health
insurance for future medical expenses, while others choose to use it for
