The three main Celtic Insurance plans for Virginia residents
are the Celtic Basic Plan, the CeltiCare Preferred Select Plan, and Health
Saver HSA plans.
The Basic Plan offer high deductible health plans (HDHP)
which are a form of catastrophic plans.
These plans are partnered with low premiums which make them attractive to
young adults who have trouble finding an affordable health insurance plan in
today’s economy. However, because of the
high deductible, the plan is recommended for young, healthy individuals where a
medical emergency is a rare case.
The CeltiCare Preferred Select Plan is a form of a Preferred
Provider Organization (PPO) plan. PPO
plans are different from Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans, in that
PPO allows members the freedom to choose what health care provider s/he uses
while HMOs require individuals to use only in-network primary care physicians,
specialists and hospitals. As a result,
HMOs tend to be cheaper and the copay is higher in a PPO plan when an
out-of-network provider is used.
The Basic Plan also offers PPO options with 80/20% coinsurance,
where the member is responsible for the bottom number. As of March 1, 2010, Celtic is now offering a
70/30% coinsurance level with $1,500 to $7,500 to choose from.
Health Savings Accounts are accounts where individuals are
responsible for their health care dollars and choose where to spend them-
copayments, medical procedures, etc.
