To qualify for group health benefits in Delaware, the company must have a business between two and 50 full time employees. Full time employees are employees who are employed for at least 30 hours per week and who are not seasonal. At least 50 percent of these employees must be included in the small group plan.
There are three major options of health insurance plans. They are Health Maintenance Organization plans (HMOs), Preferred Provider Organization plans (PPOs), and Point of Service plans (POS).
Delaware HMO plans are the most affordable between each option. This is because the employee is only responsible to pay for the monthly premium rate and copayment which is made at the time the medical service is received. HMOs do not cover benefits outside the network and the provider is not accountable for any outside expense. Employees are required to stay in-network with doctors, specialists and hospitals for their services to be covered.
However, employees are sometimes comfortable with their family doctor and if the doctor is not in the plan’s network, employee may have to give them up. Therefore, employers choose PPO plans to appease their employees. PPO plans offer employees the freedom of choose their health care providers at an additional copay cost.
The POS plan is the most flexible of all three products and in turn, costs the most. Employees are able to choose their primary care physician (PCP), and go out of network for their services. Premiums and deductibles are usually higher for these plans.
Research beforehand the health history of your employees and find out what employees are looking for in terms of healthcare so you can choose the best health plan for your business. With health insurance incentives, highly-qualified employees are maintained and retained with little employee turnover, increasing profits for you business. Therefore, choosing the best plan is critical in terms of maintaining a healthy working relationship with your employees and optimizing you tax deductible rate at the end of the year.
Aetna can help with this by offering the Personal Health Record. The Personal Health Record allows employers to view the complete health history of each employee, including all claims in which the employee filed. Aetna also provides medical/pharmacy and dental plans for small businesses, as well as the traditional HMO, PPO and POS plans.
